A mixture of vibrant Talavera patterns are hand painted all over the thick circular ceramic base. Stenciled over center of the base is a large peace sign which subtly signifies the similarities between an idea behind Dia de los Muertos "to finally be resting in peace" with the credo of the once great front Mr. Garcia which was simply "Peace"

How It's Made

This unique ceramic sculpture is hand sculpted from clay that is then high-fired in a large kiln. The ceramic sculpture goes through a double firing process. The 1st firing allows the raw clay to dry and harden before it is hand-painted with Lead-Free paint. The 2nd firing is done in a high-fire kiln with a protective glaze finish. The glossy protective glaze coat is fired in a high-fire kiln where temperatures reach 1700˚F. Indoor or outdoor display, hand painted, one of a kind, each piece may vary slightly, fair trade artisan crafted. Each ceramic sculpture is kiln fired with a glossy durable finish safe for outdoor display.

Artisan Story

The Jerry Garcia figure is hand-molded with detail to reflect the posture, style, and unmistakable look of Gracia jamming away on stage. From his circular framed glasses to his over grown shaggy hair and fluffy beard. Both his outfit and guitar are hand-painted to match the patterns on the base. The microphone and stand are to additional elements fixed to the ceramic base, this clever inclusion is crafted from a thin steel bar and tiny sculpted ceramic microphone replica. This funky one-of-a-kind collector's piece comes with a certificate of authentication and artisan bio. No two Grateful Jerry sculptures are exactly the same, subtle differences will occur from one to the next.

Each Grateful Jerry sculpture is individually painted by the best Talavera artisans of Guanajuato Mexico; their technique has been passed down from one generation of artisans to the next. This limited edition work of art transcends culture, art, and music. Authentic art / decor inspired by the traditions of Day of the Dead / Dia de Los Muertos, influenced by our appreciation for Jerr-Bear and the Deadhead counter culture, created with the old-world artisan techniques of Talavera and Majolica artistry.

Talavera Artistry

Talavera style is a popular Mexican style used by crafters from Puebla, Tlaxcala, Atlixco, Cholula, and Tecali. The indicator colors of this Mexican style are typically blue and white, but artisans have added yellow, black, green, orange, and mauve to the style color palette. The color palette is made with natural pigments to get the right shades for the pottery.
