How It's Made

This Catrina is hand sculpted from raw earthenware. After several hours of sculpting and shaping the catrina the raw clay figures. Each figure is then placed in a large traditional red brick oven/kiln that is heated naturally by wood. Individual Catrina figures are fired and cured for several hours. Once properly cured and dried the individual sculptures and their components(accents) are hand painted with a mixture of life-like colors that compliment the raw emotion / look / style or to detail and or extent, depending on the commissioned work.
