The dense terracotta beads and pendant were formed from specific mixture/compound of raw earth found only in specific areas of Mexico. Chunky beads are 1”-1.75” in diameter they were individually rolled and shaped by hand. The raw clay was cured/fired in kilns heated naturally by wood. No gas pottery firing was and still is a common artisan technique of indigenous artisans through-out Mexico. Once fired the terracotta pieces were strung together on a thick hemp cable.

About the distressed finish.
While these terracotta rosaries are over 40 years old only general information is known about how they were crafted. However the Ash White color finish were applied by our team of artisan painters. The soft white adds a chic contrast to the earthy grey-beige terracotta. This ash rub collects around the crevasses and corners of the rosary. The distressed finish under-scores the unique and primitive design. Entire rosary is coated with protective urethane matte finish.
