This traditional terra-cotta and kiln firing method will hold the temperature of your hot beverage longer than normal mugs crafted from porcelain. Lead free paint and ceramic, safe to hold liquid or food. Handmade by skilled fair-trade artisans. Safe for microwave, dishwasher safe(top shelf preferred), oven safe. Artisan Story
Muertos Doggies, The Meaning Behind the Artwork.

The Muertos Doggie hand painted character / figure is a Zenwaro signature design. Each of the love-able boney characters are inspired by our love for all animals especially Dogs and Cats, as well as our endless infatuation with Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This sacred and very old holiday is celebrated throughout Mexico and other parts of Latin America. The meaning behind Day of the Dead is often misunderstood, due to its name and the postmortem style art that surrounds November 1st and 2nd. But the beauty, essence, and true meaning of this holiday exists in paying homage and celebrating a loved one's entire life. During the multi-day festivities cemeteries are decorated and outfitted for a lively celebration. Family members bring their deceased loved one all of their favorite foods and decorate their altars with fresh flowers and handmade colorful decorations.

If the tradition of Dia de Los Muertos is to honor and celebrate loved ones who have passed away. Pets are considered family and most certainly considered "loved ones", and it is heartbreaking to say goodbye. We created these mugs with a Dia de Los Muertos inspired doggie so you can remember and honor your furry companion(s) while enjoying your favorite warm beverage everyday.
