After each dish is molded and sculpted from raw clay it is ready to be cured using a two-bake high-heat firing process.
Quality & Creative Drink-ware Crafted By True Artisans.
Each Tierra dish incorporates the entire Majolica color palette to create majestic imagery and patterns of each edition. Cultural, floral, and geometric patterns directly influenced by traditional Talavera & Majolica artistry of Mexico. Each dish is twice baked in a high-fire kiln. The first bake cures and hardens the raw natural terracotta. Next, our talented all Female team of Talavera artisan painters “free-hand-paint” each dish with the Vintage Catrina artwork, a tedious process that requires no stencils, only practiced skill. The dishes are then loaded back into the kiln for the 2nd bake occurs in a high-fire gas powered kiln for several hours where temperatures reach 1800˚F. The intense heat creates a reaction where the glass compounds previously applied transform into a glossy protective glaze coat covering the entire surface of each piece.
This glossy glaze protects the ceramic and hand painted pattern also allowing dish to be both waterproof and resilient to intense heat. The glaze finish also draws out all of the colors and provides a vibrant shine.
