How It's Made
An Environmentally Sustainable Fabrication Process Utilizing Only Terra Material.
This planter was hand molded and shaped from a specific compound of raw clay. The raw earthen compound is mixed with water until proper consistency. The clay is then cast into large molds. These molds help provide the shape of the pot. Ceramicist then remove from the molds and finish the shaping and sculpting by hand. Once of proper shape and durability the raw earthen vessels are loaded into a large kiln.
The kilns are heated naturally by wood and brush. Large to mid-size terracotta pots are heated and cured one piece at a time for 24 to 48hours depending on the size of the vessel. This sustainable artisanal technique has been practiced by indigenous ceramicist of Mexico for several generations.
The simple cylinder shaped pot is pronounced with nodes. In an abstract pattern 20 raised large nodes overlay the outer surface of the pot. The Node planter has 2"thick terracotta walls; tapping the surface you can hear the reverberating concrete like density. A resiliency attributed to quality earthenware pottery making and craftsmanship.

Artisan Story
Artesanal Terracotta Pots ~vs~ Mass-Produced.
Handmade terracotta pots differ markedly from the mass-produced imitations often sold in corporate retail stores. Their artisanal production and high-quality natural sediment give them a distinctive character: a coarse, beach-sand texture, greater density and weight, and stronger durability over time. These qualities come from traditional Mexican ceramicists, techniques that are still practiced with our studio used to shape and cure each terracotta vessel.
The sturdy hairpin iron stand complements this terracotta pot with simple modern design. Hammered, shaped and welded from ½”in. thick solid wrought iron. The oxidized varnish is protected with several layers of satin finished polyurethane. The Node pot and stand combination exemplifies Zenwaro’s approach to complimenting design. Blending traditional artisanal quality with distinctive style.

Despite being very well packaged the first terracotta pot was damaged during transport😩. But the team at zenwaro worked to make everything right! Upon notifying the zenwaro folk of damage, they responded immediately with a list of photo documentation they needed. It was obvious they have protocols in place to handle unfortunate cases like this. (note to all: keep your packaging, don't throw anything away and follow their receiving instructions:).
I appreciate their professionalism, they took the time to answer all of my emails. Clayton had a great sense of humor during what could have been a frustrating experience. They made me feel confident that the second attempt would not be damaged by the carrier. Nice save Zenwaro! I’m sure I will buy from you guys again. My planter is authentic, it will be a great conversation piece!
