Artisan Story

Zenwaro's collaborative relationship with the artist and master ceramicist, Rafael Piñeda, began 12 years ago. His experience with terracotta began at a young age, under the training of an uncle who was sculptural artist also working with terracotta clay. Rafael’s immediate family does not lack talented ceramicists, both uncles and one aunt are accomplished ceramic artists.

Rafael’s mentoring uncle was visually impaired and years later became completely blind. But the lack of sight never halted Luis's devotion for sculpting, rather he continued working until his death in 2019. Rafael cures/bakes all of his pieces in a wood-fired kiln, he has resisted the urge to convert his production model to a gas-fired, modern kiln. Rafael’s creativity observes the "traditional way" where he can control every aspect of the firing process.

    Broken heart

This was a prized possession for me. It has hung on my wall for over 10 years. It recently broke after a fatal fall to the floor. I will definitely buy again.

    exceptional

I got this as a gift and it is one of my favorites for sure. It is so unique and looks great hanging in the center with other smaller devotional hearts around it!
